Essay 1 3-D

Throughout life, entertainment was one of the main keys to happiness. Entertainment first started off as normal plays, then came the black and white films and now in the present years, movie theatres. However, only one thing was missing. People from all around the world wished they could watch a movie with experiencing every single detail. That’s where 3D comes in. 3D Refers to three dimensional space or Stereoscopy which creates an illusion of the image.

Back in 1844 a man named David Brewster introduced to the world a device called the Stereoscope which is used for taking stereo photographs. This invention was the beginning of the idea of 3D. But then another man named William friese greene continued with Brewster’s work. He made the first anaglyphic (Movie that requires 3D glasses) movie was produced in 1915 and was then shown in theatres in 1922, that movie is also known as “The Power of Love”. After that, the idea of 3D movies was born. Then at 1935, the first color 3D movie was produced, which was a huge leap for the movie industry. From then on and the following years, 3D movies became even more and more popular in the movie industry which lead it to its success.

Why was 3D invented? A question many people might ask themselves. Well the main reason was to experience something that could happen in real life but instead of being in the real world, you are in a movie theatre. Whilst in a move theatre, customers experience car chases, explosions, gun shots, suspense and many more. What was the best 3D experience ever to be made? Well that movie is simply 2009s movie of the year, James Cameron’s Avatar. James Cameron made many 3D movies starting from the year 2003. He was the best at making 3D movies.

In the present years, 3D is being used in nearly all movie theatres around the world and even at homes. TV’s these days have a specification where you can watch a 3D movie which requires 3D glasses just like the movie theatres. You can even play console games while using 3D, nowadays consoles have these built in 3D chips which gives you the choice to play games in 3D.

3D started out as normal pictures coming to life but then grew to become much more.  Now movies are more lifelike it is basically as if the movie is taking place right in front of you.  3D basically made the entertainment industry what it is right now. Without it, movies wouldn’t be as much fun as how they are so far. This idea is all thanks to a Scottish physicist, mathematician, astronomer, inventor and writer who goes by the name David Brewster (1781-1868) and also the British portrait photographer William Friese-Greene.
